The intensive

Eight days of hands-on Ayurveda

The Puerto Rico Intensive is an 8 day hands-on program for all Level 1 and Level 2 students, held collectively every two years at Maha Vidya in Isabela, Puerto Rico. Students from both levels come together for the week — which is often the first time a cohort meets in person.

During the week we use local plants to make classical medicinals, learn medicine making, practise body therapies, visit a local farm, and hold round table discussions, group consultations and case studies to begin bringing practice to life.

What we do

Inside the eight days

Local plants, classical medicines

We harvest and work with the plants growing around us in Puerto Rico and turn them into classical Ayurvedic preparations — the same formulas from the texts, made from what the Caribbean actually grows.

Medicine making

Oils, decoctions, ghees, powders and pastes. You learn the process with your hands, not from a slide — measuring, cooking, straining, storing and knowing when a preparation is right.

Body therapies

Hands-on practice in the therapies students most want supervised: abhyanga, shirodhara, nasya and marma work, given and received with feedback in the room.

A local farm visit

Time on a working farm to see the plants in the ground, how they are grown and harvested, and how sourcing well changes the medicine you make.

Round table discussions

Open discussion with your teachers and classmates — questions, disagreements, clinical reasoning and everything that only surfaces when a group is in the same room.

Group consultations & case studies

Real consultations worked through together, with case studies that begin bringing your practice to life before you are on your own with a client.
